Both authors spent much of their careers at MIT. Links for their biographies are
Philip Morse and Herman Feshbach
One
of Herman Feshbach's theories has been applied to the study of Bose
Einstein condensates. Feshbach resonance has been a subject of
intense study in recent years. (Try a search for "Feshbach resonance" .) One of my favorite articles on
this discusses what Carl Wieman calls a bose nova . Some theories of the fate of the universe involve Feshbach resonances. The NIST has a series of podcasts on Quantum Information/Bose-Einstein Condensation. One of these is entitled What you really want to know about Feshbach resonances (62 MB).
In 1947 there was a famous conference on Shelter Island. In the two
lower Shelter Island photos Feynman is explaining some calculations. On his
left is Herman Feshbach. The photo above was taken in the 1970's in mid career.
Nobel Laureate Frank Wilczek is the Herman Feshbach Professor of Physics at MIT.
